Make It Cøunt

Make It Cøunt, a Marriøtt Corporation Expedition by Thomas Montgomery Marriøtt in Austin, Texas

Our Purpose

"A nation that forgets its defenders will itself be forgotten."
President Coolidge

Make It Cøunt exists to bring awareness, clarity, and meaning to the duty and sacrifice of the United States Armed Forces — and renew military service as civic virtue.

Our Projects

WAR ON DRUGS MEDAL

Cocaine is a nuclear bomb I'm going to drop on America. —Carlos Lehder, 1983

The War on Drugs is overlooked as a low-intensity conflict, but America's second longest war has killed more civilians than all other wars combined, and counting. Moreover, since 1775 approximately 1.4 million service members have been killed in action — while over 1 million civilians have died from overdose since 1999 alone. The further damage from addiction is incalculable.

We created the War on Drugs Service Medal to honor the duty and sacrifice of the United States Armed Forces and State Military Forces for general service in the War on Drugs from the 18th of June 1971 to present.

THE ALAMO FLAG

Our flag still waves proudly from the walls. —LTC William Barret Travis,1836

The Alamo's last stand echoes in eternity, but lost to history is the flag Travis was referring to in is legendary call to arms. We created The Alamo Flag to finally offer a solution, and honor the 213 Texans that gave their last full measure of devotion.

BATTLED WATER

To care for him who shall have borne the battle; and for his widow, and his orphan. —President Lincoln,1865

If there is magic on this planet, it is contained in water. —Loren Eiseley,1957

Since 1985, over 20,000 children have lost a parent serving in the United States Armed Forces to combat, training, disease, and suicide. Their loss can never be filled, but their future doesn't have to be jeopardized. Our water is pure. Our mission is simple: 100% of profit funds scholarships for Gold Star children.

WAR TREE

To me, half the war is a memory of trees; fallen and tortured trees...and formed the memorial to many efforts of arms. —LT Richard Talbot Kelly, 1917

War Tree is a military memorial dedicated to American service members that have been killed in action. Inspired by the scorched landscape of the deadliest battle in American history, the shattered branches are adorned with dog-tags of the service members from each city the tree is “planted” in. Our aim is a nationwide "forest" that honors all 1.4 million Americans — and counting.

COLD WAR CAMPAIGNS

A problem well-stated is half-solved. —Charles Kettering

No war ever posed a greater threat to our security. If you are awaiting a finding of "clear and present danger," then I can only say that the danger has never been more clear and its presence has never been more imminent. —President Kennedy,1961

Words matter. The Cold War is the most misunderstood war in American history. We hope to change that. The United States and Soviet Union fought the Cold War in over 50 major campaigns primarily consisting of wars between other countries — a war of wars we clarify as campaigns. By supplying each side with resources, the United States and Soviet Union indirectly fought each other in most of them. In 5 campaigns, American forces significantly participated: Berlin, Korea, Vietnam, Grenada, and Panama. In 1 campaign, Soviet forces significantly participated: Afghanistan. In 2 campaigns American and the Soviet forces directly faced-off: Cuban and Space. However, the Middle East campaign proved to have the most consequential spillover, ultimately creating the War on Terror.

CASUS BELLI

The most important thing you take to war is the reason why. —COL John F. Mulholland Jr, 2001

Northwoods. Building 7. Insurance. Oil. Israel. Saudis. Neocons. Military-industrial-complex. Blackwater. Haliburton. Vengeance. Empire. Neocolonalism. New World Order. Trilateral Commission. Bilderberg. World Economic Forum…

Dr. Scott Fraser, a forensic psychologist, observed that the brain abhors a vacuum; it fills in information that was not there. As the fog of war clears, we attempt the impossible: to offer an unadulterated, non-partisan, non-emotional, objective and nuanced perspective on the War on Terror. Rooted in declassified, chronological fact that discerns motive from opportunism, misconduct from policy, overreach from malice, and the tension between freedom and security.

COLOSSUS

Our flag still waves proudly. —LTC William Barret Travis,1836

Colossus is a monument dedicated to the colossal impact William Barret Travis had on the creation of Texas — and subsequent impact on the world. Among the youngest revolutionaries in history, his pioneering spirit, independent thinking, courage under fire, and sacrifice personify the Texas character.

187 years after his last full measure of devotion, our flag still waves proudly as home to 30 million Texans and the crown jewel of American freedom and opportunity.

Colossus is a kinetic monument featuring the Lone Star Flag from May through September, and the Alamo Flag from October through April honoring the Texas Revolution.

DISASTER VETERAN

America leads. We are the indispensable nation. Our military is the best in the history of the world. When trouble comes up anywhere in the world; a typhoon in the Philippines; an earthquake in Haiti; they don't call Beijing; they don't call Moscow; they call us. That's how we roll. And that's what makes this America. —President Obama, 2014

Lost in the shadow of combat operations is the vital duty of the United States Armed Forces and State Defense Forces in military operations other than war. While incomparable to the sacrifice of combat, man-made and natural disasters are defined by their own horror: inflicting more civilian casualties and property damage than the War on Terror, World Wars, Cold War, Civil War, Indian Wars, and the Revolutionary War combined — and counting.

TEXAS NEEDS YOU

I have determined to augment at my own private expense a company of men for the defense of the Colony against hostile Indians. —Stephen F. Austin, 1823

Did you know Texas has its own military? Established in 1823 to protect the first 300 settlers, the Texas State Guard is the world's premier state defense force with over 30 million Texans and the world’s 8th largest economy depending on them.
